Foursquare, the New New Thing

We’ve gotten used to sharing ‘who’ we are on Facebook, the next step in social networking (and marketing!) is ‘where’ we are.

You’ve probably been seeing your Facebook friends over the last several weeks update their status as “checking in.” This is Foursquare in action, the latest cutting-edge social media application that combines digital, mobile distribution of data with the real-world physical locations of its users. It’s a social networking site — and mobile app —  that tells your friends where you are and allows you to share tips like, “try the ’07 Syrah.”

Updating your status on Foursquare, called “checking-in,” allows your friends to find you and also find out what you like and recommend.  You can check-in from parks, bars, museums, restaurants…  really anywhere.  The app is also a fun game where you can earn badges, points and even become the “mayor” of an establishment by being a frequent customer.

As a winery or restaurant, one way to get the most out of Foursquare is to let your customers know that you’re participating. You may offer a discount or freebie to frequent check ins or the first check in of the weekend.

Facebook will also be adding location specific functionality later this month, creating a huge impact for  local businesses.

A video is worth a million words

Video is the one type of media that will never get old, it will only get better. Adding video to a website brings new life to the page, it gives the website an entire new dimension. With video, the viewer is able to delve into the site and really see what the company or product is all about.

Juice doesn’t mess around when it comes to videos. From the camera lenses to the editing software – we use the best equipment there is. Our clients don’t want a low quality video, and neither do we. We strive to make the best videos possible, and we have fun while we’re at it. No two videos are the same, just like no two days at work are the same. Every video brings a new story, a new challenge, new people, and new experiences. When I sit in front of an editing screen for six hours straight, I really get to learn about the people in the video. By the end of the day, I feel like I’ve known them my whole life. It’s definitely a cool experience.

Not only does video boost the personality of a website. But it opens up new ways to attract more viewers and potential clients. With the use of YouTube, Vimeo, and much more, your website and video can be seen all over the internet. You are no longer limited to having the video only play on your website and nowhere else. You can send it to friends, share it on Facebook, even watch it on your phone!

Photography can make or break you

Taco Salad big

I know of a restaurant, which shall remain nameless, that is trying to save money by taking pictures of their food themselves. Oh the horror! Here’s the thing, folks: “saving” money on this aspect of your branding is a huge mistake. Nothing makes your product look cheaper than bad photography. And if your product looks cheap, nobody wants to look at it, let alone drink it or eat it. Potential clients will actually stray away from advertisements and promotional material with unprofessional images, and here’s why: it’s not appetizing. Why would they want to spend $45 on a bottle of wine that doesn’t even look like it’s worth $45? The fact of the matter is, food and wine products don’t have to just taste good. They have to look good too.

Photo Shoot for Studios on the Park

We had a blast at “The Art of Wine” at Studios on the Park last Friday. With many of our favorite wines being poured and surrounded by such lovely colors and textures, it was a wonderful event. Sasha and her team do a wonderful job with this beautiful art venue. This is truly a treasure on the Park in Paso Robles.

Cowboy Blues Photo Shoot

We had a lovely shoot this weekend for “Cowboy Blues” the latest release for Sleepy Guitar Johnson, aka winemaker Denis Degher of Mojo Cellars. It was hard choosing just a couple of photos after we had nearly fifty we liked. Good problems to have.

Paso Winemakers Participate in the First Twitter Feature Film

June 21, 2009 – Paso Robles, CA

We are passionately devoted to spreading the word about California’s Central Coast and the Paso Robles wine region. To that end, we recently participated in the film “140” also known as “The Twitter Movie.” Shot on Father’s Day, 2009, the project was led by filmmaker Frank Kelly of Ireland, who recruited 140 filmmakers all over the globe to record 140 seconds at precisely the same moment. Twenty-five winemakers of Paso Robles turned out to participate in the shoot, which was shot by Dina Mande-Gould and hosted by Eberle Winery.

The project is currently in post production. Check out the photos of the day on our Facebook page.

For more info, visit http://www.frankkelly.blogspot.com/ or follow Frank on Twitter @frankwkelly

Update on the Twitter Movie, August 8th, 2009. I emailed with Frank Kelly and here’s his reply:

“140 is progressing well, if a little delayed. I had planned to start editing on August 1st, but I’m still 30 clips or so shy of the full 140. Hopefully I’ll get them all in the next week. The clips so far look great, I’m really happy with them and looking forward to the edit and starting the sculpt on this thing! I think it’s going to be something unique, that’s for sure.”

Check out our new web series: Pasoharvestfilms.com

Welcome to our latest web series which chronicles this year’s grape harvest in Central California’s Paso Robles wine country. These films are for the sheer fun and celebration of harvest and to encourage visitors to come experience this unique region. We will focus on the unique personalities of at least a dozen of our winemakers and vineyards, but there are more than 200 to explore.

The harvest season is exhausting and filled with anticipation for winemakers and grape growers. When you consider how hard they work all year, doing the best they can with their resources, but still relying on Mother Nature, you understand the significance and importance of each precious vintage.

Experience Harvest in Paso Robles, One Mini Film at at Time

The first mini-film in the series follows winemaker and record producer/engineer Dennis Degher at his Domaine Degher Wines vineyard as he supervises the harvest of his the “third leaf”, the first viable year for vines —and was shot on Labor Day Weekend. Next in our lineup will be Clautiere Vineyards, Derby Wines, L’Aventure, Tobin James, Graveyard Vineyards, J. Dusi Wines, Four Vines Winery, Pear Valley Vineyards, Cass Wines and First Crush Winemaking, among others.

We will release new films every few days through October in order to coincide with the Paso Robles Harvest. For more information, visit pasowine.com.
